OUR LATEST PUBLICATION (no. 54) explains the local connections with the Canadian troops, billeted in and around East Dean, many of whom subsequently took part in the disastrous Dieppe raid (codenamed Operation Jubilee).

The date set for the attack was 19th August 1942 and the total of ships and craft employed in the operation was 253. The military force embarked amounted to approximately 6,100, of whom 4,963 were Canadians and about 1,075 were British.
